Blumat for Houseplants - the simple
watering system for the limited watering needs of household plants.:
- Water is delivered directly through the ceramic
cone.
- Water is sucked from any kind of container via a
thin tube.
- Blumat is operational at all times, without set-up.
- Plants remain in their normal locations, repotting
is not necessary.
- Blumat is the ideal water system during vacation
periods, however, it
is also suitable for use throughout the whole year.
How
does Blumat for Houseplants actually work?
First, the Blumat for Houseplants is filled with
water and sealed. The suction tube must be free of air, carefully bleed any air bubbles
from tube. As the soil dries, the ceramic cone delivers water gradually into the
surrounding earth-thereby creating a subpressure within the cone. The subpressure causes
water to be sucked from the nearby container of water.
This is the same tensiometer principle as used in the Tropf-Blumat. However, in the
Tropf-Blumat System, the subpressure is used to activate a valve and water is fed under
pressure to the plants.
Adjusting the Blumat for Houseplants: Actually no adjusting is necessary.
However, the amount of water that is drawn into the tube, and the thereby resulting
moisture, in the plant pot can be somewhat controlled. For instance, a higher subpressure
is required to suck up water if the ceramic cone is higher than the water level in the
container. The soil will be drier in this case. On the other hand, if the water level in
the container is higher than the ceramic cone, the water will be forced into the plant
pot. In this case, overwatering can result!
Careful, too high of a subpressure in the Blumat for Houseplants can cause a break in the
water column and allow the entry of air. The plants gradually dry out. Each Blumat for
Houseplants can only deliver a limited amount of water. Therefore, several cones may be
necessary for larger plants in order to meet the higher water needs. In this case, a
larger reservoir of water also must be available..
